This book isn’t as strong of an opening salvo as the first book in the first volume was. Despite not being as dark as that last opener, this story from Rucka is still very strong. When I first flipped through this book I thought Southworth’s art looked too clean but it quickly fits perfectly as we learn that Dex is moving into a new office in a nicer part of town. The backgrounds of Portland are, like last run, stunning. Rucka and Southworth start this tale in the thriving indie music scene. Dex helps a new client find her missing “baby”, which turns out to be a guitar. Her client is the lead in a local band that made good and she approaches Dex through a mutual acquaintance from the last run. As she is investigating her first lead things quickly turn sour for our favorite PI from Stumptown.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
