Another addition to the polarizing event that will ultimately lead to the downfall of "The man without fear", Shadowland: Ghost Rider #1 made up for alot of the drudgery. Not having read any recent Ghost Rider, I did not know what to expect of this one-shot but the events continuing from Shadowland issue three drew me in. Blaze makes his way to Kingpin and is issued his command to destroy The Snakeroot Clan thus removing them from the situation and thus earning his freedom from Fisk's control due to The Hand's magic. Crain's painterly style lent a special quality to the art of this book and should be highly commended. Being the darker and grittier anti-hero and requiring a darker, grittier art style did not stop him from giving us lush, action-packed panels of goodness instead of the black-bogged pages of shadowplay. (No pun intended) Rob Williams' scripting took this already gorgeous book to a another level with it's script. The back and forth serrated patter between G.R. and Fisk within the first few pages was almost too good. Williams also managed to bring me up to speed in a vague way on what had been going on with Blaze, all while moving the story forward. Not to mention the whale ride and the nigh-unexpected ending to what was a great one shot that I am happy to make my pick of the week. PS. Baby. Back. Ribs. -Doc Sporen
