Oh man, I really think Brian Reed needs to get of this book after this arc. This feels a bit like Loeb’s Hulk, where stuff is happening, but it not clear why or how.

I have been getting Ms Marvel for 44 issues now and I am sad to say it gets worse and worse with each one. When I look at the incredible Hulk this month (which I also reviewed) and Gotham City Sirens and Avengers Initiative and any number of other great books that came out the same week, Ms Marvel is at the bottom of the pile.
I thought I liked Sana Takeda’s work from some covers I saw on a Fathom book, but this stuff happening here? Not good. The faces are indistinct and everything looks really soft and squidgy with a colour pallet that is just odd to me. Add to that a confusing sequence of events that gives the impression that panels are missing and its not looking pretty. The War of Marvels story arc was an interesting one in so far as you had to do something to bring back Carol Danvers. Killing her in the first place was an error in my view, so what’s going on here is just clean up. Brian Bendis does a great job in Dark Avengers of making Villains interesting but Brian Reed seemed to struggle to make Karla Sofen likeable and in a book with only 1 lead character this was essential for success.

As I said before I have been reading this book since the start of Reed’s tenure and I really wanted it to succeed. The first few issues were great, with great art and essentially a new character to get to grips with. But as is the nature of comics sometimes, the great artists move onto newer books and in this case, the writing has deteriorated.

Overall not a great reading experience for me and a let down in an otherwise mind blowing week. I think this book will be getting dropped by me when this arc finishes.
