The main reason I picked up this issue was because of the variant cover with Jade. Well, not exactly, because I do like James Robinson. Mark Bagley on the other hand I am not a huge fan of.

This issue is the new team’s first battle as a team, it seems. They team up to calm down Etrigan the Demon for a little bit and then get complemented for great “teamwork”. Woohoo … look everybody, the scrubs are a team now. The JSA makes an appearances too which is cool. There is a revelation of perhaps a new team member at the end.

Honestly, I just couldn’t get passed Mark Bagley’s art. It’s not as unsettling as say Tan’s art on Batman and Robin, but the art does definitely take away from the writing. His art is actually better than the last JLA issue I bought (#38), but it’s still unnerving. I don’t want to hate on the guy’s art too much because he is consistent and it’s professional looking.

I really did enjoy Etrigan The Demon’s rhyming and the jokes everyone makes at his expense. Etrigan The Demon also made fun of the new JLA which was funny.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 2 - Average
