Lucky for me, my shop had a copy of the Legacy Edition of the Eisner winning one-shot that came out previously.  I picked that up with this first issue, and I gotta say that I totally see why this book gets so much love.  Not only is this story absolutely fantastic with all the creepiness and the villainy, but the art is absolutely sensational.  This issue picks up where the one-shot left off.  Fans that missed that first one-shot should easily be able to follow the story in this issue.  Basically, we see the choices that the main character made at the end of the one-shot circle around on him, and we are treated to some very horrific actions.  But that’s the draw of this series as we see what you think is a loveable loser turn into a super evil dude. Jason Ciaramella is crafting a very gripping story, and if this series continues on this path, this will certainly be a great series to direct people to when the trade hits.  The art by Zach Howard is awesome.  He uses a sketchy feel to the art which adds a bit of madness to the look of the book.  Add in some great colors by Nelson Daniel, and this book has a very distinctive look.  All of the right visuals pop off the page thanks to the coloring and the thick inks really play up the stakes in each image.  It’s nice to see the character’s features get darker and darker in each panel.  Overall, I think this book is pretty great, and if you gave it a chance, I think you’d feel the same way.

Story: 5 - Excellent
