As can be expected, Mike Allred’s art is dazzling and fluid as anyone familiar with him has come to expect. No one can draw those surreal scenes quite like him. However, despite appearances, Allred’s art is not the star of this episode. In this issue we see the curtain pulled back just a bit more and some hints about what is going on in this world. There are two ways to really make me love a book: to build a world that is unique, fun and exciting to discover or to create interesting, fully formed characters placed in challenging situations. So far iZombie is coming through with the world building and I can see inklings of great characters taking shape. Various sorts of monsters, a mysterious ‘guide’, a monster hunting group, a rival group of monsters. This series could really be a lot of fun.

Comments

  1. Agreed. I think this series begs to live as a animated film. The initial arc so far has been pure fun.

  2. Best thing at Vertigo right now.

  3. I really like the cover!

  4. Great, succinct review. Couldn’t have put it better myself. This book rocks.

  5. I actually like Unwritten a bit better from the Vertigo line, but that is no slander on this book. I was fortunate to meet Chris at HeroesCon and its a joy to say that an authetically nice and cool guy is writing a really good book.
