Heroes Fo Hire was a series I almost didn't get, but after hearing the rave reviews Abnett and Lanning get for everything they do, coupled with my love of Marvel C-listers like Falcon, Paladin an Moon Knight, I decided to give it a shot. The first two issues were pleasant surprises and issue three brought a revelation to light: heroes For Hire is not the best Marvel cmic being published today (that would be Invincible Iron Man.) However, it is by far the most FUN book being published by the House of Ideas today. In one issue you get Savage Land Natives being smuggled into the country to be used as prostitutes in a BC themed underground club, Paladin fighting Iron Fist, Moon Knight fighting a Velociraptor, and more plot twists concerning the mystery of why Puppet Master is manipulating all of these heroes through the seemingly comatose body of Misty Knight to do his bidding. This book has the kind of old-school slugfests, big fun action ideas, and great characters that made me a comic book lover 27 years ago. Heroes For Hire is everything that I could ask for in an action based super hero book.

Good review. I just wonder why Abnett and Laning continue to work on the fringes of the Marvel universe while less tested writers like Spencer and Gillian are working on the marque Avengers and X-Men books.
Ooops, I meant marquee books.
@Invasionforce My theory on that is that Abnett and Laning have developed a following, so they can bring an audience to a book with lesser known characters. I think most people who are buying this book are doing so for the creative team, rather than a burning desire to see Paladin and Falcon in a monthly book. With titles like X-Men and Avengers, they will sell no matter who the creative team is, so it is less of a risk from a sales perspective to put unproven talent at the helm on those books. No matter who is writing Spider-Man, it will sell a good number. If some unknown writer was tackling a book featuring Silver Sable and Misty Knight, it wasn’t going to move many copies.
