This is another strong issue of Harbinger. It starts with a hilarious first page that drew me in and set the stage for the rest of the issue to surprise me. I thought to myself, this is the best first page I have seen in a long time. From there Joshua Dysart delivers lots of humor, action, and drama- everything I’ve come to expect from this Harbinger- executed flawlessly. The reworking of the original Torque was imaginitive, and carries on with the theme that these Harbingers are outcasts being given a chance to live out their fantasies, albeit at a very high price. The reality-TV references made a lot of sense considering todays TV options and Torque’s “condition”, and I found them very funny. Harbinger is such a serious book, but is executed in such a way that it doesnt depress me. I feel (fear) for the characters, but somehow stay focused on the silver lining.

Lee Garbett provides the pencils for this issue, and although some of the characters look different than they have previously, by the end of the issue I felt like it was the best work this title has seen yet. His Flamingo and Kris looked great, his panels were clean and easy to follow, and he handled all of the “extra-reality” scenes with good imagination.

There was an ill-placed flashback in this issue, and a couple events that raised some questions for me, but in no way did they subtract the awesomeness, and I’m sure answers will soon be provided. I found this issue to be much more engaging than the last, and one of the best of the series, as we see the relationships build between this new group of heroes on the run.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
