This is the first time I’ve dipped a toe into the Garth Ennisverse over at Dynamite, and it’s what I expected — technical detail mastery, realistic rendering of soldiers, and a decent travelogue of a particular time and place. The Carlos Ezquerra art is evocative (it’s nice to see the old pro getting work these days), but it’s Ennis’s fondness for combatants and martial culture — of all sides, of course — that harkens back to an author like Remarque in his portrayal of shared humanity during wartime.
