So, after hearing all the gushing about how great this book has been since the BND reboot I put it back on my list. I've been pretty happy about it so far, Last ep was really good, this one not so much. This one was pretty average. Plain. Enh, okay, I'll say it: boring. It just felt flat. And wrong.
The encounter with Matt Murdock didn't feel right. See, Peter needs a costume since his roommate is wearing his (unwillingly). No spare, apparently. So, Pete webs up a ski mask and calls up Matt for one. Riiiight. And after some "Hey Matt, it's Spider-man," "No, I don't think so" phone chatter, Hornhead gives him a spare DD costume. And he just happens to have one with eyeholes. Guess it's the Danny Rand model. But wait, Danny's DD was never seen with his eyeballs showing, was he? And why couldn't Matt recognize Spidey's voice on the phone? Doesn't he have super hearing? I mean, apparently he just talked to him within the last day, since Spidey had to have given him the info on the lawsuit, which Matt is helping with, which Pete just learned of yesterday.
Oh, and Vermin shows up.
Oh, and Pete/Daredevil just walks into a police station to report his missing roommate. And they help him.
Oh, and the police apparently know the faux Spider-man has been captured by someone, and where he's being held. But they're not going there to follow up, despite him being a suspected serial killer and all.
And Kraven's daughter or whatever she is is bragging about having Spider-man all chained up in her lair. While trying to score MGH.
Ah, heck with it. I'm changing the story score to a 1. (And I like Guggenheim. I'm not slagging him, it just wasn't his A game.)
The art felt like Jimenez phoned it in, too. Not his usual high quality. Average at best.
PS. I will say the Devil-man lyrics were funny. "The man sans fear." Heh. I'll keep the story at a two for that.

Nice deductive reasoning for why DD should have recognized Spidey’s voice. It seems like Guggenheim should have had a few people read this over before it went to print, saying: "does anything seem off here?".
I agree with some of what you said. Alot of the flaws that you spotlighted i would consider minor and did not detract from my enjoyment of the story personally. I did not have a problem with Vermin, and it was easy for me to accept Pete/Daredevil being allowed into the police station due to the officer’s respect for Daredevil. Also, while we may not have seen a DD costume with eyeholes in it before, the idea that Murdock might have one laying around didn’t really throw me.
However, Kraven bragging about capturing spiderman to the MGH dealer and DD not recognizing Peter’s voice both rubbed me the wrong way. I was a little iffy about the MGH in general but it might pay off in the next issue.
Nicely written review. 🙂
i hate spider-man. it pains me to say that.
