Make Comics #19 – Where Should I Live?

Show Notes

Andy’s back, and we’ve got a listener question! Christian wants to know if it matters where he lives if he wants to break into comics. Josh Flanagan and Andy Schmidt talk about what geography means to comics today, with the help of technology, but also the benefits of face to face contact in the various aspects of the comics industry. So don’t book that flight or moving van just yet.

Running Time: 00:15:05

Andy Schmidt is the founder of the online comic book school Comics Experience, as well as a former editor at Marvel Comics and IDW Publishing. Josh Flanagan has been working on iFanboy.com, talking, reviewing, and thinking about comics for over a decade, as well as writing and creating some of his own.

If you’re interested in going further, you can check out Comics Experience, where there are plenty of classes available in all the disciplines of comic book creation from writing to drawing to coloring to lettering.

  1. Great podcast. I’ve been learning a lot with these. Wondering if moving from where I am (St. Louis, MO) would help, though?

  2. Hmmm. I live waaaay up in the north of Scotland and travel “too the city” is surprisingly complex and difficult. This is going to be interesting.
