The Best of the Week in Panels – 03.20.2013

You ask me to have lunch, tell me you slept with Elaine, and then say you’re not in the mood for panels. Now you listen to me: I want panels and I want them right now. I don’t have a job; I have no place to go. You’re not in the mood? Well you get in the mood!

Comments

  1. There were two moments that made me laugh out loud this week: The first was the return of “Kirk-Manly” in Chew, and the other was Vibe meeting Hawkman in JLA. Glad both of them made it here.

  2. Hawkman & Vibe is the worst buddy comedy i’ll ever read 100 issues of.

  3. That Chew panel is panel of the decade for me.

  4. Anyone else guilty of looking for Waldo in that The Private Eye page?

  5. Sholly Fisch should be the next ongoing writer on Action.

  6. I laughed so hard at the Chew panel.

  7. That Daredevil Panel was great. I was laughing for a good while.

  8. Did you see the creator names in the backwards name thing in Action Comics? Sholly got a shout out.

  9. Terrific selections this week. I’m pleased to find I’ve read most of them.

I love the way Wal- I mean, Barry – is clinging to Superman’s cape in that panel. Brilliant motion, there.

Those panels made me laugh out loud.

  10. That is some good John Romita Jr. right there.

  11. I thought the panel where The Will grabs Lying Cat was a shoe in for panel of the week.

  12. God there’s so many great moments in the books I bought this week. But it is hard to top that Hawkman/Vibe moment….Johns writes a great Hawkman and it’s weird how they didn’t give him that book to help revive the character (again!) like he’s doing with Aquaman.

    Some other moments I liked:

-Avengers #8: The panel of Captain Marvel telling Kevin he’s getting pants. What a wonderfully drawn figure of Carol and great coloring to indicate a huge spotlight is behind her.

-Chew #32: Bad-ass Tony Chu finally screaming back at his boss. Well deserved.

-New Avengers #4: Surprised the Namor laugh didn’t get a nod here. A perfect moment to cement that Hickman should be THE writer for the character till the end of time.

-Saga #11: So much considering it was my POTW. But the one I loved was the face Alana makes when Marko suggests the baby should be named Barr. She’s trying so hard to hold back her anger but still trying to smile. Great stuff.

  13. I haven’t read any of these yet but have about 4 of em in my pull, the Deadpool Dead Presidents will make a good trade, fun, quick read & pass it on to a friend. I love DD right now and am not caught up but just love seeing Antman on that side of Marvel. I’ve only read Cap #1 but every time I see a panel of his series on here I wanna buy the other issues. I hope they make an Action Comics Absolute for Grant Morrisons run cause I’ll bet any money it reads better straight through and some extras like creative process and concepts would compliment it well. I haven’t read but the 1st issue of that and like many found it too wordy (which sounds stupid and lazy) but am a huge Grant Morrison fan and will buy an Absolute of this run. Batman Beyond unlimited always catches my attention too and think it might become one of my few digital only reads and I would also love to see DC implement those characters into some of the main DCU titles. New Star Wars Legacy looks solid, Ania Solo’s costume and Gabriel Hardman are enough reason for me to be interested. Like JLA much more than expected, Hawkman is a beast! That page makes me like Vibe a bit too. Chew is an Omnivore set I need to catch up with, only read the 1st trade but loved it. Haven’t been reading JL, love All New X-Men, thought I was over teen heroes but I’m a sucker for Marvel Cosmic and loved DNA’s run, not to mention my daughters name is Nova so had to check that out and thought it was fun. Invincible is excellent but I’m way behind to read all that now and Private Eye was excellent, deserved POTW.

  14. I loved the Antman smartphone panel when I read it. I didn’t get JLA or Deadpool, but enjoyed seeing their entries here (“I’ll inter you myself Mr. President,” Steve Rodgers always follows proper protocol . . .).

I’m just wondering, though, what Kindt needs to do to get some Mind MGMT panels in here — there was some fabulous work (as always) in that book this week . . .

  15. Also, my favorite Justice League moment this week was Barry’s “It’ll be fun” comment to Batman and the blank stare he gets in response. Never suggest to Batman than something’s going to be fun . . .
