PREVIEW: The Massive by Brian Wood

Dark Horse Presents #8 sees the launch of The Massive, a new serial from Brian Wood and Kristian Donaldson.

Wood’s explored the post apocalyptic realm with DMZ, a speculative saga of urban warfare on the island of Manhattan. Now, he looks to the seas. There’s a lot of water in the world and it’s constantly under threat by pollution and industrial calamity. But what if it was way, way worse than it already is? In The Massive, Wood offers a bleak yet all-too believable vision of the future. It’s also the setting for his latest mystery thriller.

The synopsis:

THE MASSIVE

Set in a post-war, post-crash, post-disaster, post-everything world – the environmental action trawler Kapital scours the earth’s oceans for its missing sister ship The Massive, while struggling to redefine its core mission. What does it mean to be an environmentalist after the world’s already ended?

Let’s have a look at the first three pages.

Comments

  1. I am very excited for this.

  2. When will this become an ongoing, or will it be ongoing in DHP?

  3. Can’t wait for this. Have DHP pre-ordered. Should be an ongoing later this year. Thought I’d read somewhere a month after DHP #10. We’ll see when the solicitations hit for April.

  4. Really excited for this. Met Kristian Donaldson at a local signing and he does fantastic work (and is a super nice dude) and I always enjoy Brian Wood’s writing.

  5. My favourite writer and a character named after me, awesome.

  6. Its more gorgeous then I ever imagined. DHP is easily the best comic to come out of 2011, and 2012 looks right on track to be as exceptional, if not more so.

  7. So amazing. I absolutely can not wait for this. DHP is quietly becoming one of the the best books on the shelf every month as an anthology. Hard to do, but boy they make it look easy.

@TheAdventurer, completely agreed. The Massive and Nexus coming in 2012?? This year is going to be amazing.

  8. Is that the mysterious cop from Scott Snyder’s conspiracy on page one?!*Gasp*
