NYCC 2011: Ed Brubaker and Image Comics?

The New York Comic Con is getting underway later today and much of speculation of what’s to come is beginning.  Earlier today, Image Comics publisher Eric Stephenson posted on his blog about the Creator Owned Comics panel, scheduled for Friday, October 14th at 4 PM.

For those who may not remember, it was this same panel that Stephenson, along with Robert Kirkman, announced Brian K. Vaughan’s return to comics with Saga with artist Fiona Staples. The BKV announcement was THE news of the show,  so, it’s safe to say there’s some level of expectation for a similarly sized announcement.

In the blog post, Stephenson may be hinting at the announcement with:

And I don’t want to spoil all the fun, but I can tell you that we’ll be joined by Cable, Deadpool and Youngblood creator Rob Liefeld, and Hack/Slash creator Tim Seeley. We won’t be joined by Ed Brubaker. Or will we?

So many questions! Where to begin?

Is Ed Brubaker, who’s not scheduled to be at the con this year, going to be making a surprise appearance?  And if so, why? Does this mean that Ed Brubaker will be announcing a creator owned series at Image Comics? And if so, who will the artist? Will it be long time collaborator on Sleeper, Criminal and Incognito, Sean Phillips? Or another artist? Let the speculation begin!

Looks like this panel is the one to watch at the con. If you’re going to the New York Comic Con, you can see it live in person by attending the Creator Owned Comics with Robert Kirkman panel on Friday, October 14 at 4 PM in the American Airlines Theater 1A06.

Comments

  1. Why mention Brubaker at all. He has nothing with Image at the moment, correct?

Might he join them by phone? Via Skype? Hmm. And what might he bring to Image?

I love Brubaker’s work. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this.

  2. I love Ron when he puts on his conspiracy theorist hat. He should start his own rumors blog. I’d read it!

  3. was Fatale announced as an Icon book? could this be going to Image?

isn’t Jim McCann also going to be at this panel? food panel then this might be the best two hours of the con!

  4. Isn’t Bru Marvel exclusive?

  5. Brubaker rocks! nuff said!

  6. Brubaker and Lark bringing Scene of the Crime to Image? Too far fetched? All I know is that would be my dream reveal.

  7. I really miss Brubakers DC days since he did so many creator owned series back then. Yeah I realize it was probably because he wasnt able to get bigger projects, but I really wish he would do more of his own comics now since Criminal is taking yet another break and its going to be a while before his new book with Sean Phillips is released.

  8. The picture makes it seem like he’s wondering if he’s working at Image Comics too.
