iFanboy Upstarts: Evan Bryce

Don’t tell a super-hero this, but there’s more to comics than capes and cowls. Underneath the cartoon funny-man veneer lies a vibrant comics scene encompassing everything from fantasy, slice-of-life, science fiction, comedy, drama, autobiographical and more. You can make it big without suiting up for Marvel and DC, and there’s a growing number of creators that are rising to the surface to enjoy.

Artist Evan Bryce has a background in teaching art, and if you’ve seen his art you can definitely learn something. His expressionistic work follows in the path of artists like Mike Mignola and Jim Mahfood, creating a more idiosyncratic style that that sets him a part from most other artists. He got his start as a colorist on the indie book The Hunger, but got his formal comics debut doing a short with Joe Keatinge in a 2006 issue of Negative Burn. He was one of many who had work featured on DC’s ZudaComics.com website, and has been a welcome surprise in the back of various collections with pin-ups for Supermarket, Astounding Wolf Man, Crimeland and the recent Transmetropolitan CBLDF tribute art book. He’s also done a handful of webcomics shorts such as Rick Dangerous and President Awesome, and recently did inks for his friend Kristan Donaldson on The Guild: Tink.

Evan Bryce hasn’t announced what he’s working on next, but after reviewing a sample of his work below you tell us what you’d like to see him tackle next.

Comments

  1. I think I like this Bryce guy.

  2. Yeah I gotta admit; this is the first time I did not like an artist featured on this. Some of them I saw in limited roles in mainstream comics….But, no offense to Mr. Bryce by the way, I am not a fan of his style. Too sketchy for my liking.

But you can’t go wrong with a Breaking Bad/Batman crossover.

  3. I really wish Breaking Bat was a real thing.
