‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ – S01E23 – “Larfleeze”

Green Lantern_The Animated Series_Larfleeze

When he appears in comics I always found myself on the edge of being annoyed by Larfleeze. Let’s see how he fares here!

Here’s how “Larfleeze” is described:

The crew of The Interceptor searches the planet Okaara for the mythical Orange Lantern battery as a way to combat the Aya Monitor.  The problem is, it’s guarded under the watchful, and very greedy, eyes of Larfleeze, the one and only Orange Lantern.

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

Comments

  1. I don’t think Larfleeze has ever been as funny as he was in his last 30 seconds of this show.

  2. I think this was my favorite episode of the series. So many good character growth moments for Razor, Hal, and even Larfleeze (impressive considering this was his first appreance and had maybe 10 minutes of screen time). The only thing I can gripe about is the fact that Larfleeze looked reptilian and acted a bit too much like Gollum. Other than that, I had fun watching this whole episode. Although the “Animal Man” shorts were a little off as well.

    • I think the reason Larfleeze looks more reposition is because of the budget. As I understand it, fur is expensive. However, if you look closely, you’ll see some texture they put on him to at least try to look like fur. Either way I think he looked great and Dee Bradley Baker seemed to have fun playing him.

    • Yea I saw the fur, or what little there was on his head. But he was missing his snout and his tusks looked like teeth. He also didn’t sound like I imagined him in the comics, but like I said I really enjoyed this episode and my gripes dont hinder what I thought of the show. I think the animation in this episode stepped up too, like that fight scene in the cave? It seemed more polished than last week’s fight between Atrocitus and Hal and Carol.

    • Agreed on the Animal Man shorts.

Great episode; glad I caught it.

I loved the flies buzzing around Larfleeze’s head. Nice touch!

For a one-dimensional character he’s great – one of my favorite Lantern characters.

    • I loved those Animal Man shorts. I want a whole show like that. (For at least a few episodes.)

    • I usually love the shorts, in fact I got really amped when I realized that the shorts would feature Animal Man this morning. That said, IMO they weren’t as funny as the previous AM shorts. They were either too short, had a weak payoff, or both. Humor is subjective I know, but I was disappointed this morning. An Animal Man show would be cool, but this version seems more like Plastic Man (i admit, its worked in short bursts so far). I still wish DC Nation could be 2 hours, then we could have a little more variety in the shows (Plus, more shorts!). Does anyone know if that Doom Patrol cartoon is still coming on?

    • I dig the Animal Man shorts with the exception of the constant “Animal Maaaan!!” interjections. I find them irritating.
Were there plans of a Doom Patrol series? I don’t remember hearing about that.

On an unrelated note, I’d like to point out that my previous misuse of words is a result of the swype feature on my tablet. What I meant to say earlier was “looks more reptilian…” I know I could left it alone but it bothered me. I’m not stupid. Although having just typed that, I certainly feel that way.

    • If I read some article on here or IGN right, supposedly there is a Doom Patrol cartoon in the works (DC Nation’s schedule is getting crowded, “Beware the Batman” & “Teen Titans GO”. Maybe every show they have will only last 1 season so they can have a constant offering of DC shows). Don’t worry about the spelling error. I noticed it when I read your previous post, but I knew what you were trying to say. There really should be a software patch on everything with Spellcheck so you can set preferences.

    • In one of the DC Nation magazines (issue 1, I think) there was a 2 page feature with the Doom Patrol on it, along with General Immortus. I remember seeing Negative Man, Robtoman, and Elasti-Girl, but not Chief, though he was mentioned.

The art style is on-par with The Batman Strikes, though a bit more cartoony.

If the shorts were aired, I missed them.

    • Thanks @mgrifith, I knew there had to be evidence that they were working on a Doom Patrol cartoon.

  3. This where I wish this series had a toy line because I really want an orange lantern Hal. Nice costume design for him and I love that they created their own lantern for the show rather than taking the model for the green lantern and coloring it orange. Little touches like that go a long way. It’s too bad we won’t get to the Sinestro Corps on the show as I would have liked to see their design for a yellow battery.

Again, the animation was great. You can see how conflicted Razer is through his facial expressions alone and they did a good job of showing how powerful an orange lantern is given how Hal took his teammates out pretty easily.

Larfleeze was great. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed him as much in the comics as I have in the show.

    Lastly, Glomulus!

  4. Another week, another great episode of GREEN LANTERN. It’s really gratifying to see how much this show has progressed since its debut. On Saturday mornings I used to watch YOUNG JUSTICE first but now I watch this one.

  5. SO GOOD!!! I WANT THIS SHOW ON FOREVER!!!!

  6. This episode was tits! God I wish they didn’t cancel it

    • That expression always makes me laugh, but it seems like most people consider it expletive. I’ve seen it blurred out on tv and Internet articles.

  7. This was one of my least favorite episodes. Hope it’s back on track next week.
