Ed McGuinness Cover for Death of Spider-Man

It'll be on the stands in April. After that, I guess, no more Spider-Man. This is the variant for Ultimate Spider-Man #157. Or Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #157. But no one calls it that. Either way, Ed McGuinness still drew a hell of a cover.

Comments

  1. Love it. Simple.

  2. Huh…

Well, they’re still shaking things up.

  3. I think he’s just taking a nap after eating a big chunk of that headstone 🙂

  4. Looks like Boston Brand is at it again. Smashing your own grave is one thing but this, this is just intolerable

  5. He is not dying! Right?

  6. No more Ultimate…

  7. I am not looking forward to this…

  8. Nicely done.

  9. great… simple, emotional and direct

  10. Wouldn’t you see the bottom part of the last R in PARKER? Maybe it’s a different Spider-Man that dies, Peter Parke;)

  11. Isn’t there still a clone or two of Peter running around in Ultimate for them to kill? Because that just happened in 616 and would be hilarious.

    Also, Ben’s tombstone much?

  12. I really hope thy do something insane like kill Peter off and have the book focus around the supporting cast. Make the ultimate books mean something. I mean ultimate spidey is definitely one of the best books out there but it can be so much more if marvel had the stones to do something nuts like kill off Peter. Just a thought.

  13. I couldnt disagree more with those who hope spidey dies to mix things up–ultimate spidey has been the most consistently great superhero book on the stands for about a decade now and it would be such a shame to see the story do something drastic just for the sake of doing something different. The book has been different enough on its own terms.
Peter faking his own death to finally take a role in SHEILD?? That I could buy into; the story has definitely hinted at peter eventually becoming a SHEILD operative since Nick Fury first revealed himself to peter waaaay back in the day. That would be different AND would fit nicely in with the story thus far without forcing an unfortunate end to my favorite superhero comic.

  14. I’m surprised he didn’t make him all muscly.  It’s a great cover.

  15. I always kind of assumed the story would eventually carry Peter to be the head of SHEILD. Still wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what happened. @jdudely might be on to something.

  16. yawn …

  17. where’s the robot??

  18. I actually like this which is strange because I am not a fan of Ed McGuinness. I say just as long a Hulk which resembles a balloon animal doesn’t make its way on to the covers they will turn out pretty sweet.

  19. Subtle, nice.

  20. It’s a life model decoy!!!

  21. Doing the Ultimate Clone Saga was ballsy and fun (even if it went on too long).  Doing Ultimate Spidey’s Death feels tired and reeks of the worst comics cliche, something that should be above this book.

  22. I couldn’t get back into the Ultimate titles after the Ultimatum story line; the only true strong title was Ult Spider-man and even that started to get bogged down due to the global changes happening in the Ult Universe.
