May 11, 2012 8:45 pm @SDucky25: Seriously? How can it get worse? GA is my all time favorite, too, I stuck around long enough for them to ditch J.T. Krul in the hopes that someone could still make it cool again, and insteaad they gave us the new 52. WTF!! Green Arrow as a corporate party boy hipster is "staying true to the core concept of the character.".....sure, I guess if you consider the core concept "a guy in green with gadgety arrows." I am now officially done and am just going to re-read all my 80s Mike Grell Green Arrows over and over again until I die of old age.
December 19, 2011 2:50 pm Ninja-Sarcasm, the cutting sharpness of the blade is never noticed.
December 16, 2011 7:38 pm $450 is basically a good two days pay for most middle class income type of jobs. But its only about a day for a freelancer responsible for his own Health Insurance, his own taxes, etc. So his output is about a page a day. Its not that shocking to me. But with that said, if I were a publisher, I would definitely cut out inking as a separate discipline. While the cost may be justifiable in terms of hte employee, I dont know that the actual return on investment is there.
December 9, 2011 3:53 pm I don't. I can respect that all writers have to make decisions that not all of their readers will appreciate or agree with. And while I wasnt a big fan of his GA stuff pre DCnU I didnt think it was bad by any means, just not to my taste. The whole Fall of Arsenal story line on the other hand was just bad. Like, feel it deep down in your bones on cold evenings when the wind is howling outside bad. I actually stopped reading after the second issue so I was mercifully spared the cat.
December 8, 2011 5:51 pm Poor Sam Wilson, He should change his superhero name to the Token. Suddenly reincluded in the Avengers line up just so he can be the first one taken out by Cable. Sigh. Its like an 80s horror movie. Even RedWing probably looks at him and says "Man, they dont respect you."
November 16, 2011 7:20 pm Honestly, it is to be expected. Disney is looking for properties to merchandise. And before we outright blame them, we also have to remember that Marvel did the same thing before Disney, just not as efficiently. We have known for a long time that the comics exist to provide a petri dish for new ideas to make into feature properties and to market on Pajamas and Drink glasses across the county. Low selling books arent likely to produce high grossing movies from an executive's point of view. (And honestly, its probably true as much as we would like to prove it wrong.) Poor performing movies dont sell backpacks and sneakers. The characters themselves are important, but you can have Punisher show up in a SpiderMan comic a gazillion times, or Alpha Flight show up in an X-men or Avengers comic. And the talent that was working on a high quality but low selling book can then be reassigned or recomissioned to write yet another Avengers spin-off to tie in to the upcoming moive. Avengers Solo 1.1.1: Hawkeye and Hulk picnic in Central Park. Guest staring Deadpool!!
October 3, 2011 1:25 pm Its really not that hard to understand. People want to be part of a community, part of something bigger than just themselves. The work involved in scanning and posting, and the very slight risk involved, is simply the cost of membership. And given that so many readers of comic books feel marginalized by society still, this is a community where they can acquire standing based on the quantity and quality of their output, which is even more appealing and offers even more rewards for taking these actions.
September 21, 2011 8:22 pm @kennyg: negative buzz can certainly push a company to make a business decision, and there has been some negative buzz on this project (of which I am one of the naysayers myself) but there hasnt been enough negative buzz to pull him off the title like this. Most likely, it is what they claim. J. T. Krul wants to work on another project coming up and he dropped GA. Its also possible that when he submitted his outline for the next story arc after the initial one, his editor didnt care for it, solicited an outline from another writer and decided to change direction on the book. In any company, there are policitics, personalities, and cut throat decisions, and you can bet DC is no different. But overall, my money is riding on Krul just wanting to do something else.
July 18, 2011 1:55 pm Not to sound overly cynical, but "YAWN." These covers show no imagination. I would much rather see something like when the Wolverine movie came out and they had 20 covers of wolverine all inspired by different great masterpeices (and dogs playing poker.)  Maybe not all the covers were themselves masterpeices, but they showed more creativing that simply swapping cyclop's face for Luke Cage's.

Marvel has so many great artists working for them; let them out to play. Don't just give them homework.

June 17, 2011 1:43 pm My take on GL has always been rather fascistic. The Green Lanterns are cosmic police assigned to upload Law and Order in our space sector. But what government body recognizes their authority. Who appoints them? Who over sees them? THe Guardians? A bunch of people on a faraway planet with very little commonality and no contact with human beings except through their own Green Lanterns. Our reason for accepting this overlording? Their race is older and knows better than ours. What the hell?

They have given a single person (well, ok 4 at this point) from our planet a weapon of immeasureable power to use to enforce cosmic law. His identity, while common knowledge to his masters, is secret from those of us supposedly under his jurisdiction. And of course a Green Lantern would never abuse this power, right Sinestro?
