Marvel's celebrating their 50th anniversary in style, with a batch of variant covers recreating some of the classic covers and moments throughout Marvel's history. Marvel provided us with the exclusive peek at a couple of the covers to share with you today.
New Avengers #17 (left) recreates the birth of Phoenix from the cover of Uncanny X-Men #101 with a variant cover by John Tyler Christopher wrapping the issue written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Mike Deodato.
X-23 #15 takes the classic fight cover from Daredevil #181 for it's variant cover by Patrick Zircher. The issue itself is written by Marjorie Liu with art by the always excellent Phil Noto.

Really cool covers, and inventive idea. I really like this John Tyler Christopher guy too.
Really like the New Avengers one!
Is this different than the Fantastic Four vairant covers that marvel is releasing?
ya… these are awesome. more like this, please, Marvel
50th Anniversary covers two years after all their 70th Anniversary covers… does that mean their 30th anniversary will be in 2013?
Not to sound overly cynical, but “YAWN.” These covers show no imagination. I would much rather see something like when the Wolverine movie came out and they had 20 covers of wolverine all inspired by different great masterpeices (and dogs playing poker.) Maybe not all the covers were themselves masterpeices, but they showed more creativing that simply swapping cyclop’s face for Luke Cage’s.
Marvel has so many great artists working for them; let them out to play. Don’t just give them homework.
