I have to say i love all things Giffen (yes that means i am buying and enjoying Magog) andwhile that's the case it doesn't mean everything he touches is gold (I am peeking at you Ambush Bug Year None #7). But this issue of Doom Patrol... well i hope Blackest Nighters continued trying out this title if they were not reading it already. A tight neat jumping on point for newbies with SO much meat for DP fans (and foes) of Every Iteration of the team.
True to form, Giffen gives us an in depth examination/information megabomb having "Larry" narrate the rich history but never making this feel like a recap issue and moving the story along. Mathew Clark and Livesay do a brilliant job of invoking past artists Richard Chase and John Byrne work while keeping their own style.
As to the Metal Men co-feature in the book, even rushed Maguire art is a joy and the zippy bwahaha-ness of the dialog by Giffen and DeMatteis is full of characterization, echoing the accesabilty of a story in it's 3rd act.
Doom Partol #6 is a terrfic read deeply embedded in the DCU but accessible to anyone interested in a funny quirky creepy group(s) title.
To quote from the Metal Men story "Hey in this miserable economy we are ALL dying a little everyday."For a $3.99 title makes you feel like Living.
I am new to the boards, "pulled" this because i didn't think i could comment otherwise.
i
hated
this. ugh.
I am enjoying MAGOG (shocking even to me, but Giffen-written titles get a try-out from me always) but he behaves like an ass here. I like the PG solo buy unemployment dictates something has to be dropped (esp now that FF is quite good) and when isaw one of my faves back in action, Dr Fate i thought JSA would be spared but alas- no.
The same issue that featured the new Doc's return (btw anyone else notice this but new Dr Fate here and other there anew sorcerer supreme?) revealed Eclipso to be a hired thug?
no, sorry but this blows. I'll support my fellow 'mos by reading Manhunter (writer) and Rene & Kate's (character)run on Dectective.
