Damian’s confrontation with Talia was a little meh, but I like where this is going.

Wow … I don’t usually get weepy at the end of a comic book … but DAMN!

April 8, 2012 2:36 pm Not to mention the new Ultimate Spider-Man ...
April 8, 2012 2:32 pm You're right. I haven't. :) I'm just frustrated with what I perceive to be a lack of ingenuity. And in fairness to Marvel, Hickman's runs on FF and Fantastic Four have been phenomenal ... not to mention the bi-weekly enjoyment I take from X-Factor.
April 8, 2012 1:22 pm Interesting comments from Jan '11 by Reeder here ... http://blog.midtowncomics.com/midtown-comics-podcast-amy-reeder/2568/ Working on character development and empowered (non-sexualized) female characters is a big deal for her. I'm betting the sidelining of Kate and Maggie's relationship in the last two issues may also have been a problem. It seemed to me that one issue with this month's art was the mashing up of Williams' design style with Reeder's pencils. In Madame Xanadu I don't recall Reeder doing the heavily stylized design that characterizes Williams' work. And even her trademark eyes seem also to be missing this month. I just wonder if perhaps she has been over-coached on this book. And perhaps she was expecting the story to develop into something it was never meant to be.

April 8, 2012 11:30 am Spent $4 and read this digitally. It's too bad Marvel felt it needed to dress up what would have been a compelling story about Hope realizing her destiny with this very tired hero vs hero trope. I would have bought a mini (or even a maxi) about Hope. She is what is fresh and new in the X-verse ... and it is her leadership that will eventually displace Cyclops. But instead we have to put up with twelve issues of fight story nonsense that will definitely not be worth $40+.
April 8, 2012 10:21 am Even more disappointed having read this ... because the compelling story worth reading here is the story about Hope discovering and realizing her destiny. THAT story didn't need to be told within and/or overpowered by the cover of Avenger vs Mutant. It could have stood on its own. And I'm just not convinced that it is worth spending another $40+ to read the story worth reading in this maxi.
April 7, 2012 7:58 pm Call me impulsive, but that Men of War cover made me go order the entire series ...
April 7, 2012 7:54 pm It's pretty simple ... ifanboy earned the trust and respect of every Marvel and DC loving fan-boy-girl out there a long time ago. Do I believe Conor loved this book? Absolutely. I just never read this website expecting to see a non-big two POTW. But shame on Marvel for failing in the genuine creativity department. Then again, Civil War was fab and impossible to top.
March 31, 2012 8:28 pm Hate to say it, but with the bad blood between Uncle Aaron and Miles' Dad, the Dad would be too obvious. And since the Dad hates mutant or superpowered humans, leaving him alive would create more tension going forward. My bet is the Mom dies. Losing any parent is a pretty heavy weight for any child. But stories revolving around Miles grieving with a Dad who hates him, while not being able to tell him about being Spider-Man, and knowing he was connected to his Mom's death would generate a LOT of pathos for this character.
March 31, 2012 8:12 pm Have to say I agree with jonny. The characters are very different IMO. Peter was a budding rocket scientist and Miles is a kid whose aspirations for a good education hung on winning a charter school lottery. Miles exists in the same universe that Peter did, so we can't expect a new rogues gallery--but his uncle provides a new, interesting and unique threat element. Miles has different powers than Peter did. And the story has a very different appeal. I challenge anyone to read the first year of Ultimate Spider-Man or the first few arcs of the 1960s Amazing Spider-Man and tell me Miles is the same as those characters. Peter was a geeky kid living in the burbs whose worst problems were resisting the urge to beat up Flash (after he gained his powers) and the fact that he always swallowed a frog whenever he tried to have a conversation with Betty Brant. Aside from the costumes and the name, Peter and Miles have little in common.
