August 27, 2013 9:22 pm Just two days ago Ruben agreed to do a five page back-up story in the back of my upcoming graphic novel. I'm glad his art is getting the attention it deserves with articles like this.
August 5, 2013 7:15 pm You're probably joking with that last question but I've got an answer. One of the most annoying things to do as an artist is draw the other eye after drawing the first one. Harder is getting the pupils to display emotion and point in the same direction. Basically Liefeld is making them glow in a super hardcore way so he doesn't have to worry about this. He is the master of cheating.
July 31, 2013 6:37 am July 28th was my birthday! I didn't read any of these though. Would have been a much better 2004 birthday if I got gifted some of these.
June 5, 2013 9:37 am I'll be going through the same process soon with my graphic novel (crowd funding here: http://pozible.com/circus) < so subtle. I went through the 3 issue mini-series VS. graphic novel conundrum for a while. I've heard people like Bendis say that bringing something out in singles then a collected edition is just the most viable way for the big companies to make money from all different crowds. In the self-publishing or independent publishing realm it just doesn't really work. The retailer I live closest to likes graphic novels because he ends up having issues 2, 4 and 5 left after people don't come back after issue one. That's not a good look for potential customers browsing a shelf. I'm planning to go digital with the singles and then print the collection. I feel that is the way of the future.
April 10, 2013 10:23 am "nearly killed the Martian Manhunter (then disguised as someone named Bloodwynd)" Bloodwynd. Oh nineites.
April 7, 2013 10:40 am Yeah, sadly the very talented Steve Pugh is leaving me dissatisfied here. I find myself leaving Animal Man for ages after I buy it so it's off the pull-list for now. WIll be buying up Trillium though when it starts so that should even out my Lemire guilt.
April 7, 2013 10:34 am I laugh my ass off every month over Hawkeye too. That's my go to for laughs. Also when Grant Morrison pulls something particularly referential or meta I find myself giggling in delight.
March 8, 2013 6:29 pm I just want to say, Paul, your descriptions and reasonings for choosing these covers are just great. Their mini art critiques that explain the meaning you found in them without being pretentious or stretching the possible intention of the artist. Well done. The covers are pretty good too.
November 22, 2012 8:17 am Probably on a hiatus as well. Both cases are a little annoying but I'd probably rather a late issue than a cobbled together rush-job by ten artists ala Marvel/DC. I'm sure Image likes keeping monthly deadlines but creators seem to be able to take an extra month sometimes. Fatale, Mind The Gap, America's Got Powers, Morning Glories have all done it and their art is probably still top-notch because of it. Waiting sucks though.
