February 15, 2013 9:20 am Oddly, I finally understand why Marvel does so many X-books. This is the X-men book for me. Growing up, Cyclops was my favorite and I resented that everyone liked Wolverine when he seemed like a bully to me. Now, Cyclops does things I find reprehensible but I can't stop reading his fall from grace. Often, I agree with him and in this comic we get to see the oppression of mutants much more so than in other comics, something I feel has been forgotten by the other X-titles. Combine that with the new young mutants giving us a potential for the multi-generational and relationship drama that I feel are core to an X-men book and I find myself wishing I could read the next issue as soon as I put this down. This comic is not without flaws but for the moment it is the best X-title for me.
July 9, 2012 3:17 pm What would excite me? Marvel seems to be integrating three "worlds" (1) X-men (2) Avengers, which seem to include all other of Earth's heroes (3) Cosmic heroes. I agree with the statements that I've read in interviews with the editors of Marvel that this is something of a natural progression. What I'd like to see is an emergence of a 4th group in Marvel: Magic. We're starting to see it with Dr. Strange and Journey into Mystery, but there is a wealth of characters based on magic in Marvel history, a wealth of writers out there who write solid modern fantasy, and a rise of acceptance in modern world + magic for the generation raised on Harry Potter. That seems to be a fertile ground that Marvel is simply not exploiting that they could and it would not feel like "another X, Spider, Avenging, etc." kind of book.
