I am a big fan of Kyle & Yost and the Necrosha saga, which would be all kinds of super awesome if it weren't coming out at the same time as Blackest Night. Perverse timing or marketing stupidity, it does hurt it. Nevertheless Necrosha is great reading.
Less great is this one shot, which I found very disappointing. If you read Dark X-Men: Beginnings, well this is more of the same. Four out of five of the stories do nothing more than tell of how Selene recruited the individual starring in the story. Except for Eli Bard's final tale, there is really nothing else there. All the others tell the same story over and over. Selene shows up, Hero/Villain X them to embrace their killingness. Hero/Villain X does exactly that without any struggle. No real attempt is made to show any other story. I was most disappointed with Blink, who was ostensibly a moderately innocent and good person before her death/blinking out of existence. She just turns into an assassin because Selene tells her she was abandoned? Maybe, but the writers certainly didn't show it.
I like Eli Bard's story because it was different, which showed him waking up 600 years after he was first buried and finding his descendents (sort-of), and Senyaka's tale which cut through all the recruiting nonsense in a mildly amusing, bad-ass fashion. Not enough to save the issue.
Much of the art was beautiful though, so if you like shiny things and Necrosha then this is worth owning. It does do a decent job introducing you to all you need to know about the backstory of all of Selene's followers, so it is probably worth getting just for that. Just don't expect great tales in and of themselves.
