Not a storm fan, haven't liked her character for a long time due to my undying loyalty to Scott Summers as the leader of the Xmen. When i started reading comics, she was leading the team and the part that bugged me was where was cyclops. Anyway over the years with the saturation of the team, and Scott cementing his role as leader, Storm has become useless. What good's a leader when she's taking orders from someone else. Then she gets married to the Black Panther in the most innane and forced comic book arranged marriage ever done. Touted as titantic and one of the most important events in the marvel universe it just felt badly put together.
With the restructuring of the books and Storm's current status quo, she's just been hanging aroudn the X-Books. Not a major character, but too imporatnt to be a minor character. The first issue of this series summed up my feelings with Storm in that she should either stay with T'challa and permenatly leave the X-Books or divorce his ass and come back to where she belongs. I'm fine with the latter as Storm alongsdie alot of x-men have no real purpose on the team and are ust there due to the status quo
I'm a Christ Yost fan so i'll read what ever book he's writing, but i'm having mixed feelings about this story. This is going to sound stupid, but Storm hitting Cyclops with a lightning bolt half way across the world and then showing no worry about his saftey is one of the most idiotic things i have ever read. Her justification for this act, is that its Cyclops and obviously that wouldn't kill him but still you've known this guy for most of your adult life, he's family and you don't just blast family out of the sky even if you need to stop them from tearing the X-men apart. Then comes T'Challa and she states that she has no problem killing Cyclops if it needs to be done but she can't hurt her husband. This just doesn't ring true, honestly despite their little tryst in the past, the two have known eachother for little under a year and i don't care how in love you are that sounds stupid. Its just more of the problems with the Storm, Black Panther relationship.
All in all its a solid read, despite my own misgivings about the characters. Yost brings back Nezhno who was forgotten in the Manifest Destiny move and makes Storm shine as a character. Though this series is supposedy to decide her loyalties, its inevitiably going to end with nothing shaking Storm's status quo especially with the supposedly defunct Black Panther coming back with a brand new issue one by that hack scribe Hudlin
