In a week full of subpar comics, it took a comic that I had little faith in to begin with to bring me satisfaction. While the last issue was “okay”, Paul Jenkins really did an amazing job in this installment. Let’s get this straight, I LOVED Magneto Testament. It might be that I’m a history buff, but learning about Magneto’s past during WWII is such an amazing read. This issue adds more to Magneto’s backstory and gives us a greater understanding of his character. It also offers a closer look at his father which made the inevitable rise of the Nazi party even more tragic. Magneto’s thoughts on his first encounter with Cyclops is easily the high point of the story. I’m interested to see if some of the other X-Men will start calling him by his real name per his request. It’s also interesting that they X-Men are wearing their First Class uniforms in the flashback. Kind of annoying but oh well. While the story was excellent, the art left something to be desired. Andrea Mutti’s art reminds me of a “poor man’s” Leonard Kirk. That’s about really all I can say about it. Great job by Paul Jenkins on this one. Leaps and bounds away from his crap on Sentry: Fallen Sun.
