What!?! This is the last issue of this series??!!??! Dangit. Just when a good book gets a little steam under its belt. I mean I’m looking forward to the Giant-Size issue, but that should be a jumping-on point, not a jumping-off point for Marvel.

THe issue was fun. It was well executed. Spider-man was barely in it and what he did in the issue was so tangential. It’s kind of obvious that they were going for an alternate “Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends” lineup, but this issue was really just about Bobby and Johhny.

I thought Iceman could have gotten a bit more character development time, seeing as this is his book and not the Torch’s, but this was a straight-up buddy story and it was fun.

The pencils were by Patrick Scherberger, who I’ve never heard of, but boy-o-boy did they look good. The inks were by Craig Yeung, despite what it says in the solicit, but it did preserve the Roger Cruz style, while adding a bit of his own touches, and the layout of the pages was dynamic. Look out for this guy.

Are all my favorite books going to be cancelled now????

  1. This isn’t the end of the series, unless that’s a recent announcement.  Jeff Parker said they’re changing some things and it will relaunch in a couple months.  He claims fans will be happy with it and that it’s not a cancellation, so I have my fingers crossed.

  2. Well, out of Bobby’s own mouth on the recap page (which isn’t a recap at all):

Johnny: This is your last issue of X-Men First Class, right?

Bobby: Na, we’re gonna be in a Giant-Size book next month. Then we’ll be back in a miniseries in February.

Well, that’s all well and good, but a miniseries is not an ongoing. Maybe this is part of Marvel’s new Model, because more and more titles seem to be coming out in segmented volumes now. We’ll see.

  3. I don’t think there’s any real fundamental difference between a series of minis and an ongoing.  Especially with this book.
