When I glanced at the credits line on the cover, I got pretty alarmed–Stroman?  Again?  But–but—

And then I opened the book and saw that he was only listed as the penciller for pages 1-4.  Oh, I thought, there must be some reason for that.  Perhaps pages 1-4 are a lost scene flashback filling in something we missed from the time he was the regular artist, something that will make sense of an event that has been left in mystery….

And then I turned the page and found that there was in fact NO discernible reason for him to have drawn the first four pages.  Other than to remind the reader how awful it is to read X-Factor when he is drawing it.

Or perhaps to make the remainder of the issue that much more pleasing to the eye by comparison, because hey, guest artist guy Nelson (?) is not the incomparable master of X-Factor Raimondi or the always gorgeous DeLandro, but he is still quite the welcome change pages 5 and on.

Storywise, hey, it’s X-Factor, one of my favorite books, and Peter David doesn’t disappoint!  We get some real pragmatic darkness from Jamie, which just makes him even hotter (my big fictional crush).  Rictor has some great moments, and Guido gets to use all his muscles, even the one between his ears.  I can’t wait for the next issue, but please, Marvel, stop screwing with this book!  Put a good artist on this title and keep them there!
