aaron lopresti has been consistently excellent during his tenure on wonder woman, and this issue continues the trend. it’s a pleasure to look at his characters, and it picks up some of the slack for what i see as a rather average storyline. things are finally starting to get going though; i felt this issue picked up the pace a little bit by showing some of the backstory for the “genocide” character, which was mildly interesting, and also preparing the oncoming conflict with the olympians.

my biggest knock is that i find genocide to be terribly stupid, both in concept and in design. the character is bad-assery for bad-assery’s sake, without proper reference to story – she just shows up, can kick wonder woman’s ass, and has spikes for eyes, which is a little too EXTREME for my tastes. the mildly intriguing origins that are revealed in this issue do improve the situation a bit, but the character still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

that said – i think this was the best issue of this storyline so far, and it has me intrigued for the next one.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
