wonder woman was the best comic this week? so be it! i’ve only been reading since gail joined on, and while the first arc was ok, this issue was gold.

the first half of the book deals with diana starting a relationship with some guy tom. i have no clue who is, but that’s ok. it’s a really nicely written scene – you can tell that diana’s a little nervous to be pushing forward with a boyfriend. she felt so natural and so human that i was eating this up.

as for the second half – alien invasion, but not quite how we’d expect. the khunds show up, there’s some deception, and some good humor mixed in. the final page was a surprise – i’m not sure if i’m supposed to know what it means, but whatev, i’m going with it.

but the REAL reason to pick up this book. bernard chiang’s art is amazing. diana doesn’t look as statuesque and perfect as we normally see her – she seems much more unique and individual, while still appearing beautiful and powerful. the colors leap off the page and draw you in; the art captured me on page one and would not let go.

chiang’s only doing two issues. so go ahead and but this one and the next one – the story is worth it, and the art is DEFINITELY worth it.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Tom would most likely be Nemesis one of the other operatives.  He’s been in the book for a while now.  I just can’t get back into this book.  I got it for the first 13 issues and really wanted to like it.  As Ron would say, "Heinburg!"  His increadibly late finish to "Who is Wonder Woman" ruined this along with Gail Simone’s so/so start.  Good to hear that it may be looking up though.
