This issue was saved by one thing – the lack of an AvX banner on the preview image of next month’s cover. I’ve been a fan of most of Aaron’s work – and this book – but these tie-in issues destroyed much of the momentum the series has built. Bradshaw is a great artist too; it’s just unfortunate that I didn’t care about anything that happened in this issue. Can’t wait to have it out of this event.

  1. Huh. Other than having a few scenes of the Phoenix Five beating on Gladiator, I thought this issue was a nice character piece with virtually nothing to do with the AvX event. When Warbird first showed up in this series I wasn’t sure if she was merely supposed to be the straight man to Kid Gladiator or if she would actually be developed, and I personally found it refreshing to see some back story. It was perhaps a little heavy handed, but I think gives the character potential. Not besmirching your opinion by any means, I do ultimately agree that a complete removal from the current event will only benefit this title.
