In a way, I'm glad that the stand-alone Wolverine title is one of the least read books that feature Wolverine. It's kind of gonzo. Is that an apt description?
You know, remember that first porn you watched when you were in junior high? It had a story to it. Not a great story, but it was a story.
Then, you got older and discovered gonzo porn. No story, just action.
THAT'S what Wolverine feels like sometimes. Don't get me wrong, there is a story here. Sabertooth is back. Romulus has a twin sister named Remus. And somehow it all ties back to Weapon X. I don't know. I guess it's cohesive as long as you don't try to fit it into the context of ANYTHING else that Wolverine is tied into.
It's gonzo.
When Wolverine is at his Academy or fighting the Phoenix Force with the Avengers it's completely story driven. Wolverine simply exists as the enforcer in that world.
But this Wolverine book (of which I've bought now for about 15 straight books) is completely stand-alone. It's almost an Earth 2 version of the character. It's Wolverine at his murderous best. He's not hindered by children or Captain America or Scott Summers. He's a killing machine.
And Simone Bianchi makes it looks so very good.
