Akamuu woke up in a ditch with a broken arm, a few missing teeth and no memory of how he got there. He remembered…a man…a man with a sneer and unkempt hair. He had some sort of weapon…was it a gun? was it adamantium claws? He couldn’t remember. There was definitely a dame, though. She was probably trouble.

The first name that came to him was Moritat. Was that a hippo with a gun? An angry croco..NO! The guy who drew all those Elephantmen comics. Of course. How could he have forgotten those clean lines, those backgrounds that looked like they’d been dipped in tepid water. Moritat’s art was legendary in the indie scene. And he’d been drawing this comic for eight months. Had Akamuu really been out cold for eight months?

But this book was no mutant sci-fi book. No. Moritat’s art was so…western. All-Star Western! Yes, what a great book. Palmiotti and Gray’s Jonah Hex character riding through each issue.

But there was something else. Hmmm. Wild west. Guns. Sixth Gun! Cullen Bunn!

The guy who wrote The Sixth Gun was writing a couple of titles at Marvel and one of them was…Wolverine! Yes.And Bunn was teamed up with Pelletier who not only draws a hell of a kid’s crayon drawing of Wolverine, but also draws a doozy of a Logan (though his uniformed Wolverine doesn’t impress me as much…). Sure can draw a whopper of a…whatever the hell those brain looking monsters are, too.

That’s it. Brained! Akamuu didn’t pass out in a ditch, he hit his head on the counter in the comic book store while reading Wolverine 305 and All-Star Western 8. Everything’s clearer now. And those books were both so good. Not PotW material, but each of them were four star humdingers.

His vote below applies only to Wolverine 305. Surely, he left a review of All Star Western 8 sitting around here somewhere.
