The last issue of “Wolverine” finally gave us the long overdo payoff from a story arc that was growing a little tedious. But our patience was rewarded with a shocking conclusion that found The Red Right Hand revealing to Logan that all of the Mongrel henchmen he has killed in search of revenge were actually his children that he never knew he had. Obviously that revelation is going to have a dramatic effect on him and we begin to see the emotional consequences in issue #15. Logan has retreated to the Yukon where he spends his time trying to find relief for his pain while also engaged in a type of self-imposed penance. Jason Aaron writes a pretty good story but it’s an extremely quick read and I ended up feeling a little shortchanged. Aaron just doesn’t really give us much to invest in here. There are some decent sequences in the issue but with the exception of a wonderful scene with Logan and a casket in a cemetery, there was little that excited me.

Goran Sudzuka steps in to handle this issue’s art and does a solid job. For most of the book he draws a really good Wolverine. His work is it’s strongest on the pages showing Wolverine in the mountains and he manages to capture the proper tone for the story. But there are panels that look a little bland and that don’t really convey the emotion that Aaron’s story is calling for. But the goods outweigh the bads and overall Sudzuka creates a visually satisfying issue.

I still wish Aaron would have given us more in this book. Considering the events of the previous issue (and the $3.99 price tag) it seems like so much more could have been done. It’s not that this is a bad issue or that it has grievous flaws. There’s just not enough here especially considering what this character has just went through. Hopefully Jason Aaron gives us our money’s worth next issue.
