If you’ve been reading WINTER SOLDIER, you know what to expect here, but a little more refined: the art, in particular, has gotten a bit clearer, avoiding the early-issue complaints about how dark it was or how hard it was to tell what was going on. It still retains its style in full, though.

If you haven’t been reading WINTER SOLDIER, you’ve been missing out on a book of espionage, intrigue, and action, tucked away in a little corner of a super-universe. It’s actually kind of refreshing to see a story like this told in a universe like this without being excessively self-aware, like many indie takes on such things would probably be: Bucky’s scenes with Dr. Doom in this issue are played straight, even though it’s terribly tempting to do something else, I’m sure.

Oh: and Doom fights a Doombot. That’s gotta be worth something, right?

  1. I never realized how much pencils depended on an inker until I went from being okay with Guice’s turn on Captain America to loving his work in Winter Soldier.

    • I didn’t see any of his Cap, but I’m loving the look of WINTER SOLDIER now that it’s a bit less heavy on the inking.

    • Been a while since I looked at it, but his work on Cap varied from amateurish to what we’re seeing in Winter Soldier now and it all depended on who was inking him.

  2. The art has improved gradually with each issue & with the 2-parter coming by Michael Lark, looking good!
