When Brubaker left this title, I have to admit that I was a little nervous. But being the open minded reader I am, I decided to give the new team of Jason Latour and Nic Klein a try. That decision proved to be a good one, so it saddens me to be penning this review for the final issue of this series. While Brubaker’s story featured his trademark noir spin on the spy genre, Latour and Klein found a way to blend that tone into, what is essentially, a science fiction story. The story itself has been great fun, and this issue brings both the story and the series itself to a satisfying conclusion. Latour and Klein deftly tie off loose threads from Brubaker’s storyline while also completing their own tale in a way that leaves you wanting more. I saw great promise in this series, and some of the new characters were really, really interesting.

Klein’s art in the issue is pretty spectacular mixing a bold thick line with textural coloring that really brings it to life. He still adds the complexity and detail to his drawings as well, but each figure sort of stands on its own. It’s make for a unique and compelling look that is singular to his own style. I will certainly miss seeing his work on a monthly basis.

If you missed this series or even these creators, give them a shot if you can find the issues on the cheap or when the trade comes out. You won’t regret it.

  1. I completely agree w/you Neb. I was surprised by the lackluster response this seemed to get from people. I thought Latour and Klein were really on to something, the story was intriguing, and the art was phenomenal. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that just maybe this creative team can return when Bucky gets a book again around the time Cap 2 hits theaters.
