One of the more memorable characters to come out of Alan Moore’s run was Ladytron.  I didn’t take to the character as much as others seemed to when she first came out but over time she seems to have grown on me.  This issue is definitely for her fans because it focuses solely on her.  First off, Pete Woods fills in as artist for the issue (last seen doing the Cybernary backup stories in the Wildstorm Oct./Nov. titles) and he does an awesome job.  You can tell he had a lot of fun designing all the different robots Ladytron meets.  The story itself reminded me of an anime, again, probably because it involved all these different robots.  And all of the robots are given interesting personalities.  Overall, it is a fun issue but its true purpose in the big picture isn’t immediately apparent.  It’s possible we’ll see these robots reappear in the coming arc which sees the Wildcats heading to Hawaii to face Majestic.  But even though I’m not sure how this story fits yet, it doesn’t bother me.  Christos Gage proved to me (especially with his Tao backup story last month) that he’s got a huge over-arcing plan for the Wildstorm titles.  So I don’t think there’s anything we’ve read so far that won’t have some sort of impact in the long run, whether large or small.

The Lord Defile backup story is definitely the most visually different of all the backup stories so far.  Artist Ben Oliver gives us some beautifully painted pieces.  But my only issue was that it was kind of hard to grasp exactly what happened.  Oliver gives us a lovely opening shot of a Daemonite woman’s body but I really would have liked to see that page used to help add more to the story.  We do have 3 more parts left, but I think it would have helped setup the story better.  But we’ll see where it heads next.
