I went looking for a coffee table the other day and came home with a Wednesday Comics Hc. Sure, it doesn’t have any legs, but I’m sure a custom job can fix that.

Seriously though, this thing is absolutely beautiful. And not one ounce of regret for double-dipping. In fact, this is a double-dipper must have. I tried reading Kamandi again a few months ago in the issue form and this was quite a bit of work to do. Now the biggest suprise with this hardcover is how eye-gasmic this art really is on pristine white pages. The colors simply pop and really add to the over all experience. The two stories I didn’t like when this first came out (Teen Titans and Wonder Woman) were a little more enjoyable having this white background. Plus, having these stories grouped together story by story did marvelous in holding my focus to the specific plot.

If you’re still undecided, then know that there are two fantastic one-page bonus strips. Plastic Man and the Creeper. Dorkin nails the comedy and DeStefano nails the look for Plastic Man. But it is Eric Canete’s mood in the Creeper (written by Giffen) that really hooked me. Great stuff! The 10-page sketchbook section is a nice touch as well.

And “yes,” I’ll do it again if given the opportunity to buy a Wednesday Comics 2 in both the weekly format and then collected. They are both quite different reading experiences and I honestly cannot suggest that one way is better than the other. So, DC gets double the dough. Nice work DC.

Now where the hell to put it.

Story: 5 - Excellent

  1. This review makes me want to buy this . . .

I only read the first issue and thought it was a bit uneven to follow to the end.
