You would think after 74 issues of stories about characters trying to survive the zombie apocalypse, the premise would start to get old.   Nothing could be further from the truth.  After a few slow story arcs which were necessary because they introduced important characters and dilemmas, the survivors living in their new community has provided The Walking Dead with a much needed shot in the arm.

This issue has some very interesting developments for our stars, who I can’t really call heroes because of all the awful shit they’ve had to do to get where they are now.  There are some really well written sequences this issue, including a tense conversation between Rick and Andrea, as well as a subtly creepy talk between potential new Governor Douglas and his lackey Tobin.  Also, Glenn finally gets to venture back into a city for supplies, which I’ve been patiently waiting to see again since the very first arc.  To wrap the issue up, there’s a harsh cliffhanger which sets up plenty of problems for our unlucky group.

Whereas most zombie stories hit the same situations over and over again, The Walking Dead continues to bring fresh new ideas and situations to the table.  Thank sweet zombie Jesus there’s no end in sight!
