  1. This is some lazy reviewing.

    You shouldn’t have bothered.

  2. By that logic, Kirkman shouldn’t have written it.  And you shouldn’t have commented.

  3. Hahaha!

  4. You might want to freshen up on your understanding of logic, son.

I’m going to say you fancy yourself a reviewer otherwise why would you review comics every week.

If I got that wrong, then there is no need to continue.

If I got that right, then you might want to take your "work" a bit more serious.

  5. Work?  Am I getting paid for posting on this site?  Nope.

I’m a writer, who gets paid to write (but not regarding comics).  I post reviews here because I enjoy this site, and some people seem to like my reviews (some don’t, such is life).

What do you do when you’re not being a self-righteous prick over The Internet?

  6. @scorpion It’s an opinion man, regardless of how long or short it is. Also, "Son"? How demeaning can you get?

@akamuu I disagree with you on this one man.  I thought that this was a very insidious set up for some great future stories.  Also, how the fuck can you skim with all that writing.  I’ve never been a very good skimmer.  Must be that fucking ADD:(

  7. You should read it man, it was a great issue.

  8. Notice the quotation marks.

I like your reviews when you review a story you have read.

Skimming a book and spewing a negative opinion does little to boister your online presence as being much more than the prick you called me.

It wasn’t about the length of the review.

I can be a mean bastard for sure.

  9. Not sure why you bothered with this ‘review’, dude. All it did was make people take you less seriously in the future. Try sticking to reviewing stuff you actually read.

  10. @j206: No.

I’ll continue to do what I do.  I did go back and reread this issue.  I really didn’t get anything more out of it than when I skimmed it.  It’s a talented writer treading water.  The story should end soon, as nothing really interesting has happened since the death of the wife and the baby.  And I don’t see what he could do to make it interesting again.  But whatever that thing is, it isn’t what he’s doing now.

My review stands.  You can skim this issue.  You won’t miss anything.

  11. What you miss is tension and subtlety as well as character development.

That is what makes a writer talented.

Not killing characters in horrific ways.

I don’t think you understand what the Walking Dead is.

    Stick to reviewing superhero comics.

  12. @scorpion: I understand what makes a writer talented.  I never said Kirkman wasn’t talented, I said this series has become boring.  Which it has.

It’s not the act of killing the wife that made it interesting, it was the build up of her character.

I won’t rationalize anything else, since it’s clear to me now that you’re justout to be a dick, as opposed to voicing an opinion on something, which, to me, invalidates any of your opinions.

Arrogant basement dwellers, like yourself, are the reason many people steer clear of comics.  Thanks for promoting the stereotype.

  13. Slightly less vitriolic reply:

Usually, I like discussing different opinions on this site.  As most of the members here are not the stereotypical angry comic book fan who feels the need to be right all the time.  For example, flapjaxx and I often have very different opinions of comics.  I enjoy discussing our opinions, because I am aware that my opinions are not "correct".  No one’s are.  They’re opinions.

I have found this series boring for quite a while.  It’s the same events on a loop.  The first, say, eight or nine trades were great, and unlike anything else being written in comics.  Now they’re like previous issues.

Is this the same trap superhero comics fall into?  Absolutely.  Still every once in a while a writer or artist steps in and shakes things up, and a series will be interesting for a while (a while varying from a couple off issues to a several years’ worth of issues).  Right now this series needs a huge shake up.  But with the way this comic is being written, that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen.

This is the kind of thoughtful response I’d give to someone who actually wrote a thoughtful comment.  Something I’ve yet to see you do.  "Stick to reviewing superhero comics" is something an arrogant dick would say.  Thus, my assumption you are the 1 in 20 customers who comes into a comic book store and starts yammering your opinions at employees and customers, all of which wish you would leave.  Unfortunately that 5% of actual customers seems to be the stereotype of comic book readers.  Mainly because those 5% have a huge internet presence, what with not having any friends to take up their time.

You can feel free to think whatever you think of my reviewing.  It’s your opinion, and you’re entitled to it, as I am entitled to think that Walking Dead has become so boring you can skim over it and get just as much out of it as if you’d hread the whole thing.  Just as I am entitled to think that you’re a dick, whose opinion, while it matters, doesn’t matter to me.

  14. lol

  15. You wrote off issue #70 of the Walking Dead and I wrote off your review of it.

You came back with a snide comment and I basically told you that if you want to be taken seriously as a reviewer you should actually read the things you review.

You are calling me a prick and a dick and whatever other phallic references that come to your typing fingers.

I called you lazy and called you son.

The fact that anyone would come to your defense on here is mindboggling. How are you going to defend a reviewer who doesn’t even have the sense to read the thing they review?

Now you are double posting and writing paragraphs of conjecture about what I might be.

I’m sorry your feelings got hurt. Perhaps in the future it would be best that you either read what you review or man-up and take a valid criticism of your reviewing practice without being a bitch about it.

  16. @scorpion Because he’s done a fantastic job at reviewing many of the books that I read and love and captured the essence of what was created, elequently mind you, time and again.  All ass licking aside, there have been several occassions that I’ve disagreed with him and I’ve openly told him that I simply disagreed or I’ve elaborated on the point.  This has resulted in some stimulating and civil banter back and forth.  I feel he does his best to be fair with most of his reviews, depending on his mood, and being candid or short doesn’t make him any less just with his analysis.

You on the other hand have came right out with your dick swinging.  I’m well aware that akamuu is more than capable of fighting his own battles.  It just aggitates me when I see someone deliberately trying to be a bully, which I could be wrong, but it seems you’re trying to do.

Remember: you started the tone of this conversation.

  17. @akamuu – I’m surprised you think its dragging, I think its been pretty fresh since they wrapped up the Hunters arc.  I think the tension has been subtle, but through the roof.

  18. @cutty:  I think my main problem is the inevitable problem with most long series.  The main character has been through so much, that I haven’t felt like I’ve seen anything new and exciting about him or what he’s going through.  Yes, the book shifts in this issue, but it’s a shift that’s become familiar in this series.  It’s the reason I drop most ongoing superhero books every few years.  The ideas start to cycle.  And the last few issues are the first I’ve ever felt that way about Kirkman.

It might be unfair.  If this exact issue had come out earlier in the series, I probably would have loved it.  Now it makes me realize I need to drop it for a while.

@vadamowens: Thanks.  I don’t abide by bullies (much more politically correct, but less blunt than dicks) in the store or on The Internet.  That said, I clearly gave more attention than scorpionmasada warranted.
