Remember the Captain America: Who Won’t Wield The Shield issue?
That was a real treat…a MAD Magizine-ish riff on modern Marvel comics,
complete with Forbush Man gunning down a bunch of the big Marvel
writers. This week, we see What If…Venom Possessed Deadpool?
released, which is an equally funny and subversive look at Marvel
comics. Rick Remender writes this bizarrely funny one shot which
features Deadpool embarking on a quest to gain an artifact that would
make him the most relevant character in the universe. Along with Billy
Ocean With A Gun, we get some sardonic jabs at the hardcore vibe of 90’s
comics, fans who only care about comics that “matter” (aka: morons),
and more. Additionally, Remender included a much needed middle finger to
all the haters of Punisher: Frankencastle who deride it for
being too silly and “out of character”. So while the story was a bit all
over the place, it was another fun MAD-like parody of the current state
of comics. Pick this up for a good laugh.
