Synopsis:
The third in what appears to be a four book ark.In this issue Flash must Fight for control as he finds out betty has been kidnapped by Jack -O- Lantern and tied to a large explosive. We find that Crime Master has been the man behind the Antarctic vibrainium and knows venom's identity. Flash must now deliver the Antarctic vibrainium to New York where his attempts to save betty take him across our friendly neborhhod spider who has discovered Betty's missing. Spider-man assuming venom must have taken her and flash is completely overcome by the symbiote .All this come with Betty's Timer reaching zero and the military pressing Venom's killswitch and a to be concluded.
Art:
We come on to venom number 3 with new artist tom Fowler. Fowler Has done a Stand up job staying in Tony Moore's style. That said I did Find a few panels off putting particularly a shot of peters face and some of the extras in the racket ball court. The back and fourth of venom and flash havening control was depicted well and I really enjoyed Fowlers Spider-man. Fowler's art stays in the style and at first read I could not tell it was not Tony Moore.Overall I still like this art and think Fowler is a good fill in if Moore is not to return.
Story:
I find myself more and more in love with Reminders writing on this book. The story has been quick footed from the start and if you like that this issue wont disappoints. I do wish we had a bit more of Flash's internal struggle with the crime master. Flash gives in to his demands rather quickly for military personnel. I don't think many people in the armed forces would misuse there clearance especially with all Flash could stand to lose. Having Spider-Man show up was great. When you saw him you knew ether things would turn up for flash or just get mush worst and I loved hoping if only for a few pages that Spidy and Venom would team up.This lead's to my point on venom as the "lethal protector" as remender seems to head that way with the character. For the most part Flash has been able to keep venom in check and even mentions in the book how the symbiot is letting him be in control. I always enjoyed the idea that venom was not strait up evil and I think this book finally is using that concept in and interesting way.
The triple threat on the last page of everything going wrong at once made me wish it was June already.
Conclusion:
I have wanted to love Venom for a long Tim. I missed most his horrible story arc and still have held out hope he would be cool again. This book has finally done that.I haven't followed a character growth into a hero in a long time and its great to see a long time sidelines guy jump into the game. Hopefully he dose not find himself becoming the villain.
