I’ve loved The Unwritten from the very fist fantastic issue but with Issue #5 I think the series is really starting to hit full stride and show more of where this is going and how rich and complex a vein of stories (and meta stories) this series can mine.

Plus of all five issues the art in this issue is, I think, some of the best yet – and among the best comic book art I’ve ever seen anywhere – the subtle details are what I really love how some panels extend to the whole page with the others inside of them, how the lettering, word balloon shapes and every single element of the art combine to tell the story.

Yes this is a very wordy issue – with a story which is very much about the power of words that probably is to be expected – but the art is vital and critical to this story as well.

I’m eager to read the next issue (and the issues to come) The Unwritten is now at the top of my pull list.
