Picking up on a plot point from many issues again, Mike Carey and Peter Gross deliver one of the strongest issues of the series in a long time.  Seriously, this issue was fantastic.  It follows the story of Pauly Bruckner as we finally learn his fate after his great fall.  It’s a wicked issue of seduction, lies, betrayal and downright bastardry (that’s not a real world, but it fits…I promise).  It’s so fascinating to read Bruckner as he slowly begins to take control and his unabashed evil as he tries to work his way out of his situation.  Despite the strength of the story what really sells this issue is the art by Peter Gross.  Talk about a true master at work.  This issue is absolutely gorgeous.  All of the animals looks like their actual counterpart and there’s just so much texture to everything from the characters to the backgrounds.  I loved the different color palettes used in the various stories they encountered on their journey.  I’m sure Chris Chuckry, the colorist, deserves a shout out for a lot of the texture that the characters have.  Bruckner’s visage oozes dirtiness and evil while the narrator of the story is clean and innocent with thin, tight lines.  This issue was just a genuine treat to read.
