Not nearly enough people pulled this book.  I love what Mark Waid is doing with his titles over at Boom Studios.  Between Irredeemable and The Unknown I’m not sure there are many books coming out now that I look forward to more.

On the first page of this issue of the Unknown, Catherine Allingham – our death obsessed terminally-ill detective who’s had six months to live for over a year now – wakes up in her hotel to see her room two feet deep in blood with two bodies floating at the foot of her bed. She looks almost kittenish while she dresses, regarding this hallucination her afflicted brain has fashioned for her, and she muses to herself “Huh. That’s a new one.” This one page seems to perfectly capture the dark humor that runs through both of Waid’s books at the moment. Catherine has a brain tumor, she’s prone to horrific hallucinations, but her smile sets the tone that though what might follow in this issue may be tragic and gruesome, you can also have fun with it. I just love that tone this book is able to strike.
