Gritty, bloody & dark, yet heartfelt and never gratuitous. This is how I would describe this book. The first four issues collected here show us a Punisher type hero protecting and trying to save/cure his vampire girlfriend. With great action scenes, magic, shape-shifters, a scary villain and an issue that gives us how this unlikely couple met, this trade is a great ride.
I’ve heard this title compared to American Vampire (which I am also a big fan of), but I’m here to tell you it’s nothing like that. It’s just as good as AV but in it’s own right. As I’ve said before, it has much more of a Punisher/Wolverine feel to it, especially with it being set in Asia.
With fantastic art and great storytelling, this is definitely a book that has flown under the radar and should have received more press.
I look forward to the conclusion next year.
