This series makes me want to play the games again. Or play this series as a game. It’d work.

This issue focuses mostly on Drake and Chloe and their ever-growing relationship. They’re trying to feel each other out because neither is in the line of business that lends itself to unconditional trust. Their interactions are true to the characters as you might know them from the games – and if you haven’t played the games, you still ought to enjoy the banter anyway.

The plot is pretty formulaic at this point, and this issue in particular has a hole or two: aren’t they worried that the Doughtys might do something horrible to Sully while they run off into the dark? Who sets out on a globe-spanning quest for the Amber Room without realizing that, being a room, it isn’t going to be in one big piece when they find it? I researched the Amber Room for about ten minutes five years ago and I still remembered that.

If there were more pulp adventure comics on the market these days this one might simply be middle of the road – props for good dialogue but otherwise merely satisfactory. But there aren’t, and that’s a shame.
