I love UNCHARTED. I’ve loved UNCHARTED since the first game, DRAKE’S FORTUNE, way back in the PS3’s infancy. And I’m a fan of pulp adventure in general – so DC’s UNCHARTED comic was definitely one to watch for me.

I wasn’t disappointed. The series is an all-new story that occurs sometime between the first game and the second, rather than being a direct tie-in to the recently-released third game in the series. This sticks to Naughty Dog’s episodic intent of the series, so UNCHARTED neophytes can pick up this comic and not be lost – though veterans will see plenty of familiar faces.

The plot here moves quickly, but not in a bad way, and by the end the big treasure is all set up. I won’t spoil what it is, but the series is wrapping in some of my favorite global mysteries, so I’m really excited to see where it goes.

The dialogue, meanwhile, which really brings the games to life, is alive and well in the comic. Much of it is between Nathan Drake and his perpetual partner in crime Victor “Sully” Sullivan, and I can easily imagine the dialogue being straight from one of the games – which means it’s witty and full of character.

UNCHARTED got a motion comic to coincide with the release of the second game a few years ago. This comic was called EYE OF INDRA, and released in four episodes via PlayStation Network. It was pretty fun, really, and revealed some of the past of the first game’s characters.

This series looks to be all that and more – a must read for any UNCHARTED fan, and definitely worth a look for anyone who is a fan of pulp adventure, Indiana Jones, or just wants a taste of something without superpowers from their DC.

    Story: 5 - Excellent
    Art: 4 - Very Good
