Anyone else get the feeling that Kieron Gillen is running out of steam here? I loved his work on the beginning of this run, but after the “Tabula Rasa” story, this narrative seems directioness. Sure, there’s a cool prison break featuring all sorts of aliens and stuff, but I don’t see the sum total of Gillen’s run on this book pointing at anything. It was a good story, with good Carlos Pacheco art, but I’m not terribly excited the way I was a few months ago. This may be it for me, leaving me with only “Uncanny X-Force” holding up my mutant enthusiasm.

  1. I wonder if Gillen’s hands are tied a little bit by AVX. He’s kind of in an odd position in that even though he’s writing the flagship book for these characters, that book won’t be featuring the A-plot for most of those characters.

I don’t mean that to sound like a criticism. I’m excited for AVX, and even though I didn’t care for Tabula Rasa, I dug this issue quite a bit, but I can imagine that Gillen might have had to spin his wheels a little bit to set the table for AVX. And it’s possible that he had to write some stories and beats that didn’t jibe with his ideal plans for the book in order to set that table.
