I got about halfway through this issue and it suddenly dawned on me why I was enjoying it so much, the art is just so nice, it’s amazing how much more I enjoyed this because it was a good, proper X-Men story, hinted at the crossover without being overwhelmed by it AND it had wonderful art, this is what I wanted when I started reading comics again, this makes me happy that my childhood revolved around all things X-Men.

It’s also made me pretty sad Gillen is going to leave post-crossover, I like him writing Uncanny, and frankly I don’t really like Bendis if he’s to be the guy who takes charge after AvX.

But Sinister is a good villain, and he’s being used well here, and there’s some wonderful touches, a brilliant moment with some ‘hounds’ & just the correct amount of questions being raised for you and I think that if we’re lucky, this will be a really good X-Men story. Hip Hip Hooray for that.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I loved the artwork in this issue. The story was very strong as well though, so I hope it doesn’t all start to go downhill when Bendis takes over. He tends to make everything into a knowing joke, a bit like a Kevin Smith movie and I’m really not a fan of that kind of writing. Nice review, and thanks for the Bendis warning.
